Ah, poor neglected blog….

Friday, March 5th, 2010

It seems that I have neglected the StitchCraft blog in favor of quick updates on Facebook. If you’re not a fan yet, you should to get first notification of class schedules and new product!

But there is lots going on at StitchCraft. We just celebrated our 2 year anniversary! Wow, it’s gone by so fast! We have lots of new and exciting classes coming up for spring. I am excited about the Amy Butler Sun & Surf Halter class. This is a great pattern that comes in both girls and ladies sizes so it’s a fun Mommy & Me project.

We are also doing a great followup to the Serger Basics class called Serge a Tank. You will make a simple camisole style top that not only looks fantastic in knit but sews up so quickly! You become a serging convert in no time!

Lots of new fabrics have come in to the shop lately. We got the new Joel Dewberry Modern Meadow collection in, Jessica Levitt’s Timber as well as some new Alexander Henry and Amy Butler prints.

I am so excited about this new class. It’s for Anna Maria Horner’s Study Hall Skirt and it just adorable. So flattering with it’s inverted pleats and contrasting border. And look! The contrast fabric is inside the pleats as well!

Very simple and quick and you can make one too!

Aprons and Owls

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

This is the cutest apron pattern ever! It’s from Atelier Chouette, a local pattern company here in the Bay Area run by Dianna La Ferry. So fun and simple! I love the way the pockets are angled off center and the little pleats at the waist. These patterns are available here at StitchCraft along with her patterns for concert sling bags:

Large “sofa” owl pillows:

and complete kits to make owl softies!

You may have noticed an owl theme here. Well, “Chouette” is French for owl and Dianna has always loved owls!

Simple top

Friday, February 15th, 2008

Happy Valentine’s Day! Today I made this cute top. I figured a red cami is just perfect for the Valentine’s, right?

I got in my shipment of Titus Patterns late last week and decided to sew up one of these tops. I’m trying to have a sample of all the patterns I carry for customers to see. This pattern was so, so quick and easy!!! Honestly it took me maybe an hour to make start to finish. I work with so much cotton fabric so this vintage dupioni silk batik was a treat! I may do a class on this one.

Hello!

Welcome to the StitchCraft blog! Seeing as how this is the first post I thought I should introduce myself. My name is Nicole and I am the proud owner of StitchCraft, Petaluma’s brand new sewing and craft studio. I have lots of big plans for the next several months so stay tuned!

But in the meantime, here’s a fun project that I have been working on:

Flounce Skirt, originally uploaded by queen puff puff.

I have made several of these skirts over the last couple of years and last summer my grandmother requested one in black and white. I bought the fabric a few months ago and it sat on the “to-do” pile while I got through the holiday rush. So today I pulled it and got to work.

The pattern is by my favorite pattern company, Titus Patterns, and I think it’s ingenious. You cut out 6 of the J shapes from your fabric. i’m using 3 different prints so I cut 2 of each print. (you could also do it all in one fabric). And then you start seaming them together. At the top of the seams the pieces match up but as you stitch lower the curves start to oppose so you need to cliip the curves. Once stitched, the hem falls into the softest flounces. So pretty!

All I have left to do is put in the zipper and hem it up and ship it off to Miami Beach!
xoxo
